Quality tennis at BSC’s championship tournament
Bryanston Sports Club currently has some of Gauteng’s top men’s and women’s tennis players in its ranks, so there was much anticipation to see who would emerge victorious at the club’s annual championship tournament which was held last weekend.
Newly-crowned Bryanston Sports Club tennis champion, Olivier van Gorkom (left) breathes a sigh of relief after a tense final match against Tony Snyders.
An entertaining three-set men’s final saw Olivier van Gorkom lift the trophy when he beat Tony Snyders 6-1, 3-6 and 10-8. Both players had their chances to take the match, but a few uncharacteristic errors by Snyders in the super tie break (first player to 10 points), saw Van Gorkom hold his nerve to take the title.
In the ladies final, current champion Rene Plant, who is also captain of the South African Ladies Federation Cup team, defeated Rozanne Duke.
The duo then teamed up for the ladies doubles tournament where, in a repeat of last year’s final, they came up against Bonnie Davidson and Karen Corbett and once again ran out winners, in three sets.
